Trio Tresensus Nominated for the Great Music Award
I am very happy and grateful to share that Trio Tresensus received a nomination for the Great Music Award in the category “Outstanding Work in Ensemble”.
This nomination is especially meaningful for us, because Trio Tresensus has always been more than a concert ensemble. Since its beginning, the trio has been a creative meeting point between three very different sound worlds: Līga Griķe on kokle, Aigars Raumanis on saxophone, and Uģis Upenieks on percussion. The unusual combination of instruments has become the foundation for our artistic identity — a space where tradition, contemporary music, improvisation, texture and experimentation can meet naturally.
Over the years, Trio Tresensus has developed a repertoire largely built on new music and close collaboration with composers. Around thirty works have been created for the ensemble, making the trio an active participant in the development of Latvian contemporary chamber music. For us, this process has never been only about performing finished scores. It has also involved dialogue, testing ideas, searching for new instrumental possibilities and creating a shared musical language together with composers.
The nomination for “Outstanding Work in Ensemble” is a beautiful recognition of this long-term work — of the rehearsals, conversations, premieres, concerts and artistic risks that have shaped Trio Tresensus. It also highlights the importance of chamber music as a living and constantly evolving form of collaboration.
In 2026, we had the honour of performing at the Great Music Award ceremony at Concert Hall Cēsis, presenting Platons Buravickis’s Reverence.
I am deeply grateful to my colleagues Līga Griķe and Uģis Upenieks for this musical journey, and to all composers, organisers and listeners who have supported Trio Tresensus over the years. This nomination is not only an award recognition, but also encouragement to continue exploring new sound territories and creating meaningful contemporary music together.
